American Revolution Perspective Inquiry Project

Alignment Statement

With this project, students conducted research on a marginalized group’s perspective during the American Revolution. Students were put into groups and allowed to present the information in any way that they chose. Some of the sources they were able to access were WebQuests, videos, and readings. Students were instructed to answer questions about different perspectives of history and how those marginalized groups may have been affected by history today. In alignment with this standard, this project was inquiry-based and included both social interaction and collaboration as well as student choice and multisensory media components. To make this project meaningful and relevant students made connections to their lives now and connected historical events to the present.

Narrative Statement

The assigned research project was a summative assessment of a week-long inquiry into different perspectives in history. Making learning relevant and meaningful is so important to create lifelong learning. Students need to be able to see that what they do in school and what they are learning can be applicable and relevant to their lives. I aim to create these learning experiences for students so that they can make connections in their own lives and inquiry-based learning achieves this.
