Effective Communication

The teacher candidate models effective verbal, nonverbal, and media communication techniques with students, colleagues, and families to foster active inquiry, collaboration, and supportive interaction in the classroom.

Classroom Management Hand Signals

Alignment Statement

The various hand signals in the classroom serve as a form of nonverbal communication that can be utilized at any time. Students can express their needs safely and privately when necessary. Each hand signal represents a different need or preference in a way that can be communicated to just the teacher and no one else.

Narrative Statement

These hand signals come in use daily during lessons and other classroom activities. Students can signal to me what they may need and I can make eye contact with them and nod to let them know that I see them and that they can fulfill their needs. Students can meet their own needs or ask for help when needed in a way that is nonintrusive and works for every student regardless of their abilities.
