When ... Then... Chart
Alignment Statement
In alignment with the standard this artifact is an example of understanding individual motivation in a Tier 3 support. The “When… Then..” chart breaks up tasks into smaller chunks for a student to complete and is an example of positive reinforcement. This specific chart has been tailored to a student’s interests in cats. When they complete a task they get to circle a picture of a cat and if they earn all five cats in a day they earn three cat stickers. By understanding individual interests and motivation this artifact has been able to be used to increase student engagement and achievement.

Narrative Statement
By my philosophy as an educator, it is important to find the different motivations of each student to push them to achieve their greatest potential. I also value the importance of relationships in the classroom to foster trust and the intentionality behind this support is one piece in doing so. It requires me as an educator to understand the interests of my students and find creative ways to incorporate them into the classroom. This also communicates to my students that I see them and I care about what interests them. An individualized support such as this can also be adapted to fit the needs of any student.
